I just read an touching letter from an author about how something she had written never got published. It did, however, get shared with one girl. And it made a big difference in the life of that one girl. And 10 years later she told the author.
While I finish wiping away my tears, you can read it for yourself here. It’s a wonderful feel-good story, especially for anyone who ever tried to teach or create or write or put themselves ‘out there’. Wherever you are out there, Sylvia, you made my day! And thanks to Elizabeth Bluemle for sharing the Best Author Letter Ever!
So here’s my take: American Sign Language is a beautiful gift for families with babies who aren’t yet old enough to speak. It’s powerful. It’s delightful. It’s loving. It’s nurturing. It’s calming. It’s fulfilling.
I wrote my Words by the Handful booksbecause I want everyone to experience just how amazing baby sign language is.
Hoping my little children’s board books find their way into the hands of many, many Sylvia’s, and Sylvios, and their families and preschools and daycares….
Doing something meaningful for someone is the best gift you can give, and it’s one of the best feelings I know of to be the giver of that gift.
P.S. I’ve never met Elizabeth Bluemle, but she’s a co-owner of the Flying Pig Bookstore in Shelburne, Vermont. Thought I’d mention that in case anyone else wants to try to talk her out of a copy of the as-yet unpublished manuscript of Iris Spectacle: Accidental Private Eye.
P.P.S. Syliva and Elizabeth and Iris, I wear glasses, too.
